Gender Roles

All countries over time have witnessed stereotypes of gender roles. Many times they are caused by the media, such as television, film, music, and now by social networks. This is a very difficult aspect to change in society but daily struggles against it. Below, I will make a comparison between the gender stereotypes that are presented in both women and men from Colombia and Estonia. On the one hand, we have Colombians, where women are recognized by other cultures as very beautiful, with curvilinear bodies and beautiful faces, considered as housewives, cleaners and dramatic. Men are catalogued as businessmen, those who are heads of household and support the family, as well as party-goers, macho and extroverted. On the other hand, we have the Estonians, where the women of that culture are considered sexy bombs, good housewives, lovers of reading, and passive compared to men. Men are considered active and successful, enterprising, good leaders, with academic studies, interested in sports, fishing and computers.
